In the eighties Doug picked up hitchhikers as they travelled
around New Zealand. Coming into Rotorua they had no where to
stay. An idea ignited and Kiwi Paka was born. Doug and
Bev built a state of the art accommodation place for travellers to
sleep, camp and enjoy. Kiwi Paka became legendary with its "can-do"
attitude and helpful service. It was New Zealand's first
purpose built backpackers.
Word spread and many different people came to stay. Some
in flash cars, some by foot, some by bike…….but they all came
because of warm hospitality, company, good facilities and value for
money. That is the same today.
In 1994 Doug and Bev semi-retired, in came the younger
generation. Treen and Malcolm nurtured a unique accommodation
complex, a one stop shop. A place for individuals to rest,
enjoy the company of others. A place for groups to achieve and
enjoy.
Malcolm enjoys all the people that return year after year, just
like the seasons! He is passionate about sports and good at
organising! Treen loves Kiwi Paka, the outdoors and all the
great things Rotorua has to offer.
